Embracing New Beginnings: Our Adopted Refugee Teachers' Journey to Permanent Residency

Farewell to Our Refugee Teachers as They Start Their New Lives

We are proud to announce the recent resettlement for six of our volunteer teachers from our “Adopt a Refugee Teacher” program! Fleeing Afghanistan, these teachers who sought refuge in Indonesia have been living here between 8 to 11 years. During their settlement in Indonesia, they joined our refugee learning centres, Hope Learning Centre (HLC) and Refugee Learning Nest (RLN) as volunteers. These centres are set up by the refugees themselves to educate their children who are denied access to education.

Each of them served in our “Adopt a Refugee Teacher” program between one to six years before their  relocation in July 2024. With a donation of only USD38 per month for food and transportation from our generous contributors, each of these teachers changed the lives of around 20 refugee children in the learning centres by their dedicated, energetic, and spirited educator role.

Of the six volunteer teachers, two of them were granted permanent residency in the USA, two in Canada, and the remaining two relocated to Australia and New Zealand respectively. While their departure left us with  heavy hearts , we are truly grateful for their invaluable contributions  throughout their tenure in the learning centres in Indonesia. We wish them all the very best as they rebuild their lives in their respective new homes.
